It is my pleasure to provide this first monthly update on District 9940 Rotary Foundation activities.  As I sit  here in Hatepe spending a weekend with friends fishing I can reflect back on District 9940 Rotary Foundation activities for 2014/15.

Firstly I would like to pass on my thanks to the Foundation Committee for all of their hard work in the past year and all of those clubs and Rotarians who continue to support and give generously to the Foundation. I would particularly like to acknowledge Margaret Emerre for the great work she has done as Chair of the Scholarship Committee.  Margaret is stepping down from the Chair and Marion Cowden will be taking over in her place.  Margaret has been a great supporter of this programme and has championed many Vocational Scholars and Peace Fellowships in our District. We have just had two Vocational Scholars approved  and one Peace Fellowship currently being processed and considered by RI.

It is great to see District Foundation giving to the Annual Program Fund and Polio Plus programmes, which are up significantly on last year 12% and 16% respectively. This is a great effort and our thanks to Trish and Alan Brown and the Fund Raising and Promotions Committee, and Michael Fagg and the Polio Plus Committee for increasing awareness and support for the Foundation.

Another pleasing feature this year has been to see the increasing use of, and  applications for, Foundation Funds in our District. Applications for District Grants were well oversubscribed this year. Those successful clubs in obtaining funds have now been notified. Our thanks to Vince and his team for running the District Grants sub-committee and programme. We also have a number of Global Grants under action in the coming year including a potential Vocational Training Team.

I would like to thank Past Foundation Chair Tony Fryer and Christopher Robertson who continue to support the Committee and Foundation and assist me with the ongoing administration and complexities of the Foundation.

In the coming months we will be providing more details on the activities of the Foundation Sub-committees. Remember, our committee is always willing to come and talk to your club as a guest speaker about the Foundation.  Please contact either myself or Trish and Alan Brown and we will be happy to arrange a speaker.
